If you live in a place that’s as hot and humid as DC gets, you probably also consider linen pants and other linen pieces essential to your closet. Linen is a natural fabric, so it keeps you cool on those super hot days — even if you’re wearing pants. Plus, linen pants are versatile! You can dress them up or wear them on a beach vacation. They go just as nicely with a t-shirt as they do a work blouse. While these pants are obviously a go-to option for summer, they’re also perfect for spring and early fall.

Are Linen Pants In Style
Yes, of course! Linen has never gone out of style, and it never will. Every year, there are tons of different styles of linen pants, so there are always options for whatever you need them for. Whether you’re getting dressed for work or packing for a summer vacation, there’s a pair of linen pants for the occasion.
What To Wear With Linen Pants
Another nice thing about linen pants? They aren’t complicated. Linen pants are kind of like jeans when it comes to styling them. Basically, you can wear anything you want to wear with them. But, here are a few examples!
Tube Top or Tank Top
A tube top or breezy tank top feels like the epitome of summer dressing. They’re perfect to style with linen pants, especially for the weekend or vacation. I recently picked up this flowy top to carry me through the end of the summer. I like to make sure when I buy something, I’ll wear it a lot, and this will super cute with jeans once it’s a little cooler too.

Mesh Flats
Have you been wondering what shoes to wear with linen pants? Mesh flats are the breathable, on-trend, classic footwear that you can style linen pants with, whether you wear them to work or on the weekend.
Button Up
Button ups will never go out of style, and they’re so easy to wear with linen pants for work or something more casual. I wore a cropped button up with wide leg linen pants for a full day on Nantucket.
Matching Linen Top
Linen shirts or tank tops are a go-to way to style your linen pants. It’s even easier when they’re a matching set. J.Crew and Quince both do a fantastic job of of offering linen pants that work with several different styles of matching linen tops, whether you’re looking for a tank top or a button up that you can wear to work. And, whether you choose tailored work pants or wide leg linen pants.
Cotton Sweater
Cotton is the best for sweaters during transitional seasons like fall and spring, which is mostly when you would style linen pants with a a sweater anyway – unless you’re on vacation! I’ve been living in this cotton sweater, which is the perfect shade of blue. You can see it on me here in this reel. Below are several other options perfect to wear with linen pants.
Gingham Blouse
Gingham always just feels like summer! It’s a classic pattern that won’t go out of style, and there’s always tons of gingham options available throughout the summer that you can style with linen pants. There are plenty of gingham tops that would look gorgeous with linen trousers for work, too!
How To Style Linen Pants
Choose A Silhouette That Works For Your Closet
Linen pants are just like jeans in that they come in tailored versions and wide leg styles. There are linen pants with drawstrings and an elastic waist, and linen pants that have a traditional waist with belt loops. Pick the pair that makes the most sense for what you’re doing! I love the flowy, wide leg linen pants options for the weekend, travel, and vacations.
Style With Cotton Sweaters For Fall
Linen pants are an obvious warm weather staple, but you can wear them into the fall if the temperatures allow it where you live or where you’re visiting! I love to pair mine with a cotton sweater, which just reminds me of nights at the beach! Cotton is perfect for summer as you won’t be too hot in it.
Skip Drawstring Pants For Work
If you’re wearing linen pants to the office, go for a pair that have a regular waist. It adds to the professionalism of your outfit, and you’ll look like you’re dressed for work instead of for brunch. The exception is if your shirt covers the drawstring, or if you work in a casual work environment where anything goes!
Linen Pants Outfits
Neutral Linen Pants With A Drawstring And T-Shirt
This is the type of outfit I would wear for a travel day because it has layers. And, these linen pants feel like pajamas but look like normal, presentable pants! If you’re traveling, it’s nice to wear a t-shirt under something with sleeves so you’re prepared for a range of temperatures. This was my outfit for a really busy day – we took the boat to and from Nantucket to spend the day on the island.

Neutral Linen Pants With A Drawstring And Tube Top
If you’re looking for something super casual for a weekend daytime outfit or even a date night look, try this! These linen pants come in tons of different colors. They’re all perfect for hot days. You will feel put together even in linen pants with an elastic waist or drawstring!
This tube top is comfortable, doesn’t slip down, and it’s under $100. Like everyone else, I have my insecurities, and my arms are one of them. But, I’ve been embracing tank tops and tube tops again this summer, and I’m so happy I have because they’re a great addition to your closet in the heat.

Gingham Linen Pants And Matching Gingham Top
These gingham linen pants and matching gingham top are gorgeous. If you’re 5’4 or shorter like me, give these pants a try because they’re cropped. They’re also a super high quality linen, which means they’re incredibly comfortable, lightweight, and they just look so chic with the matching top. You can see this outfit on me in a video here!

How To Style Linen Pants For Work
Linen pants are a closet essential for a summer work wardrobe too. They’re perfect for a chic work outfit! I love the pairs with belt loops for office looks because there’s nothing more classic for summer in the office than a button up, belt, and linen trousers. Plus, you won’t freeze in the air conditioning.

How To Style A Matching Linen Set for Work
Matching sets are perfect outfit ideas for those summer days when you just don’t know what to wear. You can style this type of look with different shoes and jewelry depending on where you’re going. In this case, I styled it for work. Both of these tops are work appropriate. The sleeveless vest is perfect for those really hot summer days.
How To Style A Matching Linen Set For Weekend
If you need an outfit idea for a travel day or a day at the beach, try this one. The cropped cut of these pants are perfect for a walk on the beach. I styled this with a sleeveless, flowy linen top but you could also wear these pants with the long sleeve button up over your swimsuit or for travel.
How To Style Linen Pants For Fall
I’m writing this towards the end of the summer, and it’s definitely the time of the year when I start to think about how I can keep wearing my summer pieces into the fall. This is one type of outfit I’ll wear when it starts to get cooler – it’s a combination of fall and summer. There are several ways to style this. You can wear the shirt buttoned up and tucked into your pants, or you can wear the shirt open with the black tank top underneath.
Brown Linen Barrel Pants Perfect For Fall
The barrel jeans trend has slowly moved to other fabrics, and these linen barrel pants are so comfortable. I’ve been wearing them with sandals and ballet flats, and they’ll look so cute in the fall with loafers. Brown linen pants or black linen pants also feel a little more like fall than white linen pants.

Classic Linen Pants And T-Shirt Outfit Idea
A wide leg pant can also feel tailored! This style is versatile enough for work or the weekend, which is when I wore it. If you want to dress up this outfit for a more formal dress code at work, just wear a blouse instead of a t-shirt. I’d also go for ballet flats or loafers instead of sandals. Don’t forget to add your belt – I did!

Black Linen Pants And Tube Top
This outfit, while still casual, feels a little more elevated than the tube top outfit at the top of this bpost because I styled the tube top here with tailored linen pants and a belt. I wore this to a family dinner, but it’s also something I’d wear out with friends.
