Family photos have become so important to me since becoming a mom, and I also wish I had started them a little sooner with my dog, ha! Whatever your family looks like, it’s really special to have photos you can cherish. Picking outfits for your family can feel a little overwhelming. Honestly, I always feel a little overwhelmed by it as a style blogger myself!

Since the holiday season and winter in general is a great time to take family photos, I’m sharing a roundup of family photo outfit ideas for winter that will hopefully make getting ready for these photo sessions a little easier!
Winter Family Photo Outfit Ideas
There are lots of different ways to approach coordinating outfits for family photos, but I think it’s easiest to start with your own outfit first. You have to love what you’re wearing in order to feel confident, comfortable, and just relaxed during your photo shoot. So, I always pick my look first and build everyone else’s around mine – I swear by this method!
Outfits for Winter Family Photoshoot
These outfits range from casual looks to more elevated outfits, but I think they’re all effortless.
Stylish, Cozy Sherpa Vest With Jeans And A Blouse
This cozy sherpa vest was perfect for our family photos in London because we wanted relaxed and casual outfits. I love how this gorgeous silk blouse made my outfit elevated enough for family photos, though. I sized down one size in this blouse as I find it runs slighty large. I’m wearing size 2. My husband wore this cashmere sweater, which was the perfect color to match my vest. Plus, there’s a matching vest to the one I’m wearing for both boys and girls, so your little one can match you exactly.

Navy Blue Matching Vests and Sweater
Okay, I love how the child’s vest also comes in navy – I was truly torn on which one to get! So, I also created my outfit with a navy blue vest by Sezane that I saw in store and absolutely love! You can still wear the same blouse. I would have grabbed this cashmere sweater in navy for my husband.
Brown Sweater Dress
A few years ago, I wore this brown sweater dress for our family photos. I felt polished but I was super comfortable! A brown sweater dress is easy to create your family’s outfits around too. You can style your significant other in shades of brown, and your little one can wear just about anything – like brown, cream, soft blue, a soft pink, or even a soft yellow.

My brown dress is old, but I’m sharing a few below that are perfect for family photo sessions.
Neutral Skirt and Turtleneck with A Suede Jacket
This look is perfectly elevated and it would look so good with knee high boots. They’ll dress up the outfit even more and keep you warm! I also love this skirt because it looks just as good with black as it does with brown.

These are some other ideas for what to wear with brown loafers.
Wide Leg Corduroy Pants With A Chic Turtleneck
These corduroy pants are on-trend and super warm. They’re perfect for all the moving around you do during a photoshoot with little ones. They look more elevated than your standard corduroys even though they’re incredibly comfortable. I had a hard time choosing between this color and classic black, but either color would be gorgeous for family photos.

Cozy Knit Sweaters With Jeans Or A Skirt
Cozy knit sweaters are a go-to top for winter family photo sessions. Everyone will be warm and comfortable, and I think photos always turn out the best when you’re comfortable. You can still be polished and elegant in a knit sweater, whether you style it with a skirt or elevated dark denim.
On-Trend Winter Whites
If you want elegant family photos, winter whites are the perfect option. You can easily mix and match different tones of white and cream. I never try too hard to make everyone perfectly match unless there are actual identical pieces for everyone. So, my husband will wear something cream or off white even if I’m wearing a bright white. It all works together!

On-Trend Winter White Pants
These tailored pants are stunning in person. They’d be beautiful for family photos if you prefer pants in general like I do. They take the fuss out of choosing your outfit – you really just need to add a silky blouse or a sweater, and your favorite accessories. This type of outfit is also an opportunity to wear fun shoes, whether you go for ballet flats or booties.

Did you find any inspiration for family photo outfits? It can be fun to pick out matching outfits for the whole family, but I’ve found that whether we dress up or wear casual outfits for these photo sessions, we always love how they turn out!
