I also love green, and I think it has become more and more like a neutral that you can style with other colors. It’s also one way to add color to your outfit without something dramatic like a bright red. There are so many different shades of green for every season, so you can always find the right shade of green for your own color palette throughout the year.

There are so many colors that go with green! Neutrals, such as brown, cream, tan, navy, and black are always reliable options. But, it can also be fun to style green with other colors, such as purple or yellow.

Yes, green and tan do go together! You can style them together in different ways – I like to wear green clothes and outerwear with tan accessories, such as a bag, shoes, or a belt. You can also style a green top, sweater, or jacket with tan pants. For example, think about how nice tan work trousers look with any shade of green. I also like to wear green pants with fun pieces – like a stripe top.
Shades of Green and Who They Suit
Different shades of green work for different color palettes. Sage, emerald green, and some forest greens are cooler colors, so they work best for people with a cool color palette. If you prefer warmer colors, look for olive and most khaki greens because they have warm undertones. Let’s look at what goes with dark green clothes first. Denim is one of the easiest things to style with dark green, but you can also wear it with surprising patterns, such as gingham or blue and white stripes.

This green suede jacket is one of the most versatile pieces I own. It’s kind of a jacket, kind of a blazer, and kind of a shirt jacket! It’s a closet staple because you can style it in so many different ways. While it also comes in a neutral camel, this shade of green is also a neutral. It looks nice with grey, beige, brown, ecru, and black. You get the idea! I’m wearing it casually here, but it also looks nice with work pants or a skirt. It’s very easy to layer with, whether you wear a jacket over it or a sweater under it.
Dark Green Linen Button Up
Okay, dark green isn’t just for colder months. A dark green linen button up is perfect for transitional seasons. It feels like fall, but you won’t be hot in it! I love to wear this shirt with linen pants in August and September, but it’s also perfect to style with jeans in October on the occasional warm day.

Green Barrel Pants for A City Vacation in The Summer
Don’t be afraid to style dark green clothes with summer patterns like the gingham pants I’m wearing above or the stripe shirt in my outfit below. You should just make sure the fabrics feel like they’re made for warm weather, such as cotton and linen.
I wore cotton green barrel pants all over Boston during the summer. One of the best things about Boston is the weather – it’s rarely as hot as DC and pants are perfect even in the summer. I made this outfit feel like summer by wearing a summery linen shirt and espadrilles.

All green outfits are one of my favorite ways to wear a tonal look! In the all green outfit below, I mixed and matched different shades of green without hesitation! If you’re wearing two shades of green, wear the one that looks best on you closest to your face. For example, I like to wear warmer greens on my shirt since warm undertones suit me better. This outfit would’ve also looked good with a belt, but I forgot to pack one for this trip to Charleston!

I knew this color wasn’t perfect for me, but I bought it anyway because I loved the fit and I honestly just needed a dress like this for my weekend wardrobe in humid DC! I wear this dress so much throughout the summer because of how versatile it is. You can style it with sneakers for errands, flats for brunch with friends, or espadrilles for a dinner date.
Green Linen Shirtdress Perfect For Summer
A green linen shirt dress is one of those pieces you’ll wear way more than expected. It’s the perfect thing to wear to work with slingback shoes or flats. But, it looks just as cute for a casual weekend outfit with sneakers. A linen shirt dress in this color also works in the spring, summer, and fall since it feels like a neutral. Other Ways to Style Green: Striped Green Button Up For Work Or Weekend
A striped green button up is a go-to piece for a work or weekend outfit. You can also wear an oversized button up or a classic button up over a lightweight tank top or over a sleeveless sweater.
