Aesthetic Monochrome Outfit Ideas To Wear To Work, On The Weekend, And Everywhere Else You’re Going

Hi there! Welcome! Thank you for stopping by today. I’ve been excited to write this post because I often dress in monochrome and tonal outfits! There is just something about wearing a monochrome look that makes me feel confident and happy. So, I wanted to share a roundup of aesthetic monochrome outfit ideas – most importantly, these outfits are easy to wear and you’ll feel good in them. There are looks for everything. From work, the weekend, a city trip, date night, or just something you can wear in your normal routine.

Fall and winter are some of the best seasons for monochrome looks because you can layer with different textures and materials. But, you can definitely still wear this type of outfit in warmer months.

I recreated my exact outfit below since most of my pieces are old. The sweater and bag are the same, but the bag is the larger size than the one I have.

On-Trend in Brown Monochrome for Work, Weekend, or Vacation

I love brown as an alternative to black. Brown seems to be trending every fall now, and it is definitely not something that I see going out of style. Brown, camels, beiges, and tans can be worn together for a monochrome look – you don’t have to stick to the exact same shade to get a monochrome look. They’re all in the same color family. Plus, this can add depth and dimension to your outfit.

Outfit Details:

Okay, I want to share details about this look. It was one of my favorites from my trip to London a few years ago, and it’s still a favorite two years later. This outfit is a good option to pack for a fall or winter city vacation, whether you’re heading to Europe, New York, DC, Boston, or somewhere else in the US! The layers work really well for fall, winter, and even spring.

My brown sweater is all wool, which is something I look for when I shop for sweaters – I want to make sure it’s warm and it will hold up with wear. My sweater (shop this year’s version here) is perfect to layer with since it’s not bulky. Dark brown jeans and dark brown leather boots work for a bit of contrast in tones. There are so many tan and brown coats out again this year, so I picked two I love. The tan one is by Mango, which is who makes the exact coat I’m wearing.

Monochrome Work Outfits for Big Meetings or Interviews

If you want to take the stress out of getting ready for work in the morning, a monochrome outfit is the answer. It’s the perfect type of outfit for a big meeting, an interview, or any other work event where you need to go a step above your normal workwear. I can remember several big days at work where I dressed in monochrome so I didn’t have to worry about my outfit. But, I would wear a monochrome outfit to any regular office day too! Click here to see an example of an outfit I love for work that’s a cream monochrome. These pants come in a few options for colors, and they’re perfectly tailored. I really love the cream, tan, or black for a monochrome work outfit, especially with a blazer or sweater.

How To Wear Monochrome In The Summer

Tonal outfits can be just as chic in the summer as they are in the colder months. While I paired these linen pieces together, this outfit also works well with ecru or white denim. I love how the pocket detail on my top adds visual interest. This is the type of detail that’s perfect to add to monochrome outfits, whether it’s a ruffle detail on the pocket or different textures.

Full Denim Outfit With Ballet Flats

While I don’t purchase pieces based on trends, denim on denim looks are very in right now and I love them. I’m super pregnant in the photo below, which is from 2022. I chose this photo to show how I think denim on denim looks are so classic! I wore this outfit in 2022, and I still wear it now. Also, I feel like I say that a lot right now about pieces that are considered on-trend like ballet flats, blazers, loafers, and now denim looks. But, it’s because what’s on trend right now is also classic, which I love! It means these pieces can stay in our closets forever.

My skinny jeans were maternity jeans! I just sized up in a regular fit denim button up to accommodate my bump. I recreated this look with the items below. Instead of skinny jeans, I used the straight leg jeans that I wear all the time. Aritzia makes a matching denim button up, so it’s an exact match.

Denim Trench Coat With Jeans

For fall, spring, and even certain winter days, a denim trench coat is a chic option for keeping warm! I love to wear mine with denim for a tonal moment. You definitely do not need to stick to one color of the denim between your trench and the denim in your jeans – they don’t need to be an exact match. But, I would make sure the denims are the same in that they are both dark, medium, or light denim.

Denim Trench Coat With Jeans

I love some of the cropped denim trench coats that are available right now, so I included a few of those as well. This outfit is perfect for touring around a city, whether you’re on vacation or just running errands over a weekend. A denim on denim look will never fail you!

Grey Monochrome for Fall and Winter

Grey is another good alternative to black. I wore this look for a little walk with my family to get coffee and breakfast. It’s a nice option for a casual Friday at work, a weekend trip for wine tasting, or brunch with friends. I love outfits like this because you can wear them anywhere! Neutral pieces are a great way to add options to your wardrobe that you can wear in multiple ways, whether you wear them together or as separates. While my outfit is made up of older pieces, this look is really easy to recreate!

All Black Monochrome Look For Anywhere

You can never go wrong with monochrome, but especially an all black outfit. This outfit is just so versatile. You can wear it to work, on vacation, for a travel day, or just on the weekend when you want to feel put together. I own these pants in navy, and I love them. If you’re under 5’4, I highly recommend ordering the petite for length, which is what I did. I love pairing cashmere with these flowy pants. It’s a great way to add texture to outfits that are all the exact same color or even in the same color family.

Brown Monochrome Outfit For Dinner

This is another brown monochrome outfit I love to wear. Head to toe brown doesn’t have to be boring! These jeans, sweater, and the woven leather in the booties all work together and still feel like there’s dimension in the outfit since there are different materials. These are the same jeans that I’m wearing at the top of the post. This State of Cotton sweater, which was kindly gifted to me, is an absolute dream. It’s such high quality and super soft! I love how you can dress it up or down. You could also wear this to work by trading the jeans for these crepe work pants.

Casual Linen Dress And Cotton Button Up For Summer, Fall, and Spring

I’ve been wearing this dress all spring and summer, and I’m also wearing it into fall now. It’s easy to create a monochrome look with this dress by adding a white or cream button up over it. You could also add a lightweight jacket to get the same look.

My dress is old from Everlane, but I recreated this outfit below with everything else (excluding the exact shoes).

Travel Day Monochrome Outfit

These DONNI pants are my go-to pants for long travel days and just days around the house. I honestly wear them all the time though – to coffee shops, to run errands, and everything in between. I’m not wearing them in a monochrome way here, but these will look so cute with a brown sweater or a brown button up – depending on the season and what you’re doing. These pants do have a pointelle pattern on them, so solids will match perfectly.

These pants also come in black and navy, so there are other colors you can style in monochrome too if you don’t love brown!

Navy Monochrome Outfit

Navy is such a chic alternative to black. I’m wearing a casual outfit of barrel jeans and a cashmere hoodie, but trust me that navy is perfect for monochrome work outfits too.
