Hello, hello friends! Do you ever feel like you want an alternative to wearing black pants? Navy blue is the perfect option. It’s just as formal for the office or an event, it’s elegant, and it goes with just as many tops, shoes, and accessories as black! Navy blue is a versatile color in where you can wear it, and what you can wear it with. It goes with lots of different colors and patterns.

What Color Goes With Navy Blue Pants
First, let’s look at some of the exact colors that go with navy blue pants, as well as different tops, shoes, and accessories in those colors. I love white, cream, soft blue, pale yellow, silver, black, and even navy for a tonal moment.
Here are navy blue pants I love! If you’re looking for navy blue dress pants, there are several pairs here that you can wear to work and even on the weekend. The flowy pair are especially eye catching, and you can wear those to work, for travel days, or for date night. There are also options for different seasons – like a pair of linen pants for warm weather.

Are Navy Blue Pants In Style
Yes! Just like black and other neutrals, navy blue is always in style. If you’re shopping in the spring and summer, I love how navy doesn’t bring as much of a cold weather vibe to an outfit as black sometimes can. There are also different shades of navy blue, so you can wear a deep navy blue if you want your outfit to look really formal or professional.
What Colors Go With Navy Blue Pants
Okay, there are a lot of colors that look nice with navy blue pants, but these are the main colors I tend to wear with mine. For example, I love to wear pastels or neutrals to soften an outfit with navy blue pants. But, you can also wear navy pants with a navy top for a tonal look! Or, you can wear navy blue loafers. If you’re getting dressed for the fall or winter, I also love to wear black with navy. These are just some examples. So, if you’re wondering what top, shoes, or accessories to to pair with navy blue pants and what color they should be, here are some of my favorites.
White
A white shirt is always a good idea to wear with navy! A classic white button down shirt will look perfect with navy blue dress pants for work all year. You can also wear this same type of outfit in a casual way by styling an oversized button down shirt (this is my favorite one) with navy blue pants or jeans. Or, you can wear a casual white t-shirt with navy blue jeans and sandals in the summer. Whether you are getting dressed for the office or just to grab a coffee, a white top and navy pants always work together.
Cream
Okay, cream is obviously not far off from white, but cream is a little softer than a crisp white. And, I think it also feels elegant like navy. The sweater I’m in the photo at the top of this post is an example of a cream top with navy pants.
Soft Blues
Soft blues and pastel pieces also compliment navy blue. Basically, anything that’s a muted light blue will work.
Navy Clothes and Shoes
Never say no to a tonal or monochrome outfit! Navy on navy will always be super chic. Tonal outfits are flattering and a great example of power dressing. You can use this type of outfit at work by wearing a navy top under a navy suit. It also works casually – I love to wear my navy jeans with a navy cashmere hoodie.
Pastel Yellow Clothes, Shoes, and Accessories
Pale or soft, pastel yellows are another option that help soften navy blue pants to give them a spring or summer feel. I would avoid overwhelming, brighter yellows. While beautiful, they will be too stark of a contrast with navy.
Silver
Silver shoes and accessories – like my favorite earrings – look beautiful with navy! These are perfect for a formal event. I also love wearing my metallic flats with navy pants, especially in the winter when I can wear a matching sock tight to bring all the colors together.
Black
Some people have strong opinions about wearing black with navy, but I think these two colors look so pretty together. They look especially chic if you wear black accessories like a belt or black shoes with an otherwise all navy blue outfit. Okay, I know we are talking about navy pants, but you could also style black dress pants with a navy color shirt or sweater like I did here. It’s another very chic way to wear these two colors together!
Denim
Denim shirts and denim jackets are an easy layer that look really nice with navy blue pants, whether you’re wearing navy blue jeans or knit pants. If you’re in a casual work environment, you can wear navy blue trousers with a straight cut denim jacket for a super polished, tailored look that’s actually very comfortable! And, if you work somewhere more formal, wear a denim blazer with your dress pants!
What Color Shirt Goes With Navy Blue Pants
The colors I listed above are perfect color shirts to wear with navy pants. Here are a few examples of what I mean.
- White dress shirt – Dress shirts are always a good idea for work! I also love to rewear button up shirts for travel days over a tank top. A white dress shirt would look nice with a suit or with flowy navy pants for the weekend.
- Light blue shirt – I love light blue for a short sleeve sweater or a linen t-shirt. It all just depends on the season
- Striped shirt – Stripes that include navy work well with any type of navy pants, but you could also do something a little more fun like a funky green. Think chartreuse!
- Navy blue shirt – Navy blue tops are perfect for tonal outfits. I love this type of look for work or casual outfits.
What Shoes To Wear With Navy Blue Pants
Loafers
Loafers are a shoe I wear all the time, but I know a lot of people prefer these for the office. Brown leather loafers and black leather loafers look chic with navy blue. But, there are also so many actual navy blue loafers now that I would also go for those to create a chic tonal look! Loafers are also a great option for travel because they’re typically super comfortable, and it’s an easy way to bring a pair of shoes you’ll wear a lot without having to pack them.
Ballet Flats
Ballet flats are another option for work, but they’re one of my go-to shoes for the weekend. I’d choose ballet flats to bring a feminine feel to tailored work pants, for example. I also love how ballet flats elevate jeans for work, and similarly, jeans help relax ballet flats for a casual weekend feel. Ballet flats and navy pants are an evergreen combination that you can wear almost all year.
Sandals
Sandals and flowy linen pants are a warm weather dream combination! These are my favorite linen pants to wear with sandals. They’re the perfect wide leg, which is always a plus for warm weather since it doesn’t feel like your clothes are sticking to you. If you’re looking for more style inspiration on what shoes to wear with wide leg trousers, check out my blog post on this topic!
Boots
I have a pair of navy blue boots that I wear with navy pants in the winter, but I do also style them with black. I don’t really gravitate towards brown and navy as much, but you certainly can! I’d go for a dark chocolate.
Heels
Heels are a great option for flowy navy blue pants when you need to dress up for work or even have an after work event. I’d go for silver heels like a slingback!
What Color Pants To Wear With A Navy Blue Shirt
If you’re wondering which pants or bottoms to wear when you wear a navy top, you can go for white, dark denim, cream, grey, light grey, and green pants. White and navy are a classic combination for summer, spring, and early fall as you can see below. This top also looks good with white jeans or white linen pants.
Outfits With Navy Blue Pants For Different Seasons
These are outfits with navy blue pants that you can wear in different seasons! A lot of them work for several seasons like spring and fall.
Casual Navy Blue Pants
These silky-feeling pants are perfect for weekends, travel days, and even the office. If you’re heading to work, style them with a button up. If you’re traveling, go for a t-shirt with a sweater for an added layer. I styled them with a super oversized tee and a sweater around my waist for a chilly spring day to run errands. The sneakers add a touch of elevated casual since they’re suede. They feel a little nicer than chunky sneakers or sneakers you’d wear to the gym. CLICK HERE to shop my outfit.
Flowy Navy Blue Pants With A Button Up
I also wear these flowy navy pants with a soft blue button up. You can style this outfit for work with ballet flats and loafers. They’re perfect for a business casual dress code because they feel smart casual. Or, you can wear it on the weekend or for travel by pairing it with the sneakers I’m wearing above. These flowy pants are a chameleon that work with just about any top and shoes. CLICK HERE to shop my outfit.

Navy Blue Knit Pants And A Patterned Sweater
You don’t have to lean on solid colors to match your navy blue pants. A fun patterned sweater can also go beautifully with navy blue when all of the colors within the sweater also look nice with navy! Jewel tones are a great option. There are other patterned tops that go with navy blue pants as well, whether you prefer something with stripes in the spring or polka dots for a going out top.
The best thing about knit pants like this? They’re perfect for casual outings like a coffee run and weekend errands, but you can also wear them to work in a casual work environment. These pants are a nice weight for fall and winter, but they also work for the early parts of spring and fall!

Navy Blue Pants With A Simple Cardigan
A short sleeve sweater or simple cardigan and navy pants are a go-to for those days when it’s the perfect temperature outside.

Navy Blue Tonal Outfit For Fall, Winter, And Spring
Tonal dressing, which is wearing the same color top and bottom, is one way to make any outfit look elevated. I’m just wearing a pair of jeans and a cashmere hoodie, but it looks chic and polished with black ballet flats and accessories. Shop my outfit here.
Navy Trousers
Navy trousers are a great alternative for black trousers. They’re perfect for work. I love this pair, and I always recommend them!
